The mission of the Philanthropic Growth & Engagement (PG&E) Department is to advance Mercy Corps' mission by raising impactful and flexible funds—with a focus on growing unrestricted fundraising—from individuals, companies, and foundations, and elevating our global profile and influence. Our team brings together private fundraising professionals, marketing and communications specialists, development operations experts, and digital platform managers. Together, we boldly share Mercy Corps' global impact with our audiences through best-in-class storytelling with a focus on building trust, engagement, and long-term relationships among our supporters. The Position

The UX Designer/Engineer is a member of the Marketing Platforms team and is responsible for the online experience across all Mercy Corps externally facing digital properties including websites, emails and landing pages. The UX Designer is responsible for user experience strategy and design, including designing and producing materials for various Mercy Corps online channels while maintaining brand continuity and using the latest in technology and design techniques.

 

In addition to producing high-quality UX designs, this position will also be responsible for front-end development; building and optimizing public-facing Mercy Corps websites, and providing in-house website development expertise. They ensure high performance of our websites and content management system. They work directly with content owners, in-house and agency designers, and the rest of the Marketing Platforms Team to create content and build designs using CSS/HTML on mercycorps.org and our subdomains.

 

Essential Responsibilities

        Collaborate with the Marketing Platforms team and internal clients on UX & UI that demonstrate innovative and thoughtful strategies, designs and experiences

        Continually work to master relevant software and programming languages, such as PHP in a Drupal environment, CSS/HTML, MySQL, JavaScript, Drupal and related open-source software and programs.

        Keep abreast of industry trends in online development, including mobile platforms. Understand and work within project parameters: goals, requirements, usability, technical constraints, and schedule

        Leverage analytics for testing and overall improvements of UX

        Implement A/B tests in collaboration with Marketing Platforms and the Digital Analyst

        Ensure that all designs support and adhere to Mercy Corps brand guidelines in coordination with internal Creative Services team

        Participate in a matrixed Agile Scrum development team composed of both internal,

across-agency, and external, third-party, members.

        Assist in the development and continued refinement of Agile software development processes.

        Work in coordination with external design vendors as needed

        Perform other duties as assigned

Accountability

Reports Directly To: Director of Digital Development

Works Directly With: Marketing Platforms, Creative, MME, Development Operations, IT, and other stakeholders across the organization as needed.

Mercy Corps team members are expected to support all efforts toward accountability, specifically to our program participants, community partners, other stakeholders, and to international standards guiding international relief and development work. We are committed to actively engaging communities as equal partners in the design, monitoring and evaluation of our field projects.

 

Minimum Qualification & Transferable Skills

        Advanced knowledge of HTML, CSS, Javascript, and Drupal coding is required.

        4+ years experience as a UX designer with an expertise in both information architecture and visual required.

        Experience designing UX for mobile and adaptive environments is required.

        A portfolio of work demonstrating excellence in creating user-centered design solutions is required.

        Experience in ecommerce and/or transactional websites is strongly preferred.

        Proficient in standard design tools such as Figma, Photoshop, and Illustrator.

        Ability to work on multiple projects with tight deadlines.

        Experience in the design review process and working with internal stakeholders on iterative designs towards a final product.

        Experience being a collaborative team member and working directly with other developers for implementation of designs.

        Ability to work as part of a team and to communicate in a clear way.
